Grocery Shopping

Just returned from a frantic experience in Safeway doing the food shopping. I thought we would recognise at least some of the brands, but no!! You have to read everything thoroughly to find out just what it is - and everything is so pre-packaged. There's even a Starbucks inside the store. Think we'll be hanging out at Whole Foods from now on...!

San Rafael

Our house is small but perfect for us, the view across town to the bay and Richmond Bridge is incredible. Teak is having a ball and it's great to have him here with us. San Rafael itself is fairly urban – we are in the foothills above the downtown area, which has a great Whole Foods store and plenty of farmers markets nearby (we just visited one today in the grounds of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Civic Centre, lots of yummy produce). I even drove the "truck" home… a bit scary being on the other side of the road but I think I’ll get the hang of it (just have to watch out for those parked cars)!!

Into the City...

On Friday, we drove into Fisherman’s Wharf and enjoyed a ferry ride under the Golden Gate Bridge and around the island of Alcatraz. It was a cold and drizzly day, but well worth the trip and the sun came out eventually. The best part of the day was driving up and down the hilly streets of San Francisco in the Russian Hill district, windows down and everyone laughing all the way!

Marin County

On Thursday, we drove to McNear's Beach – a gorgeous state park about 15mins away, with grass so soft we lay and just listened to the silence! So quiet he even saw deer here last week, but our noisy bunch may have scared them away today! It's been great just driving around Marin - San Rafael, Corte Madera, Larkspur, Tiburon, Belvedere, Sausalito - getting the feel of the place... slowly!

Bon Voyage

We arrived in San Francisco last Tuesday, the flight was terrific. Although I had filled multiple bags with colouring books and various distractions, Jack amused himself by watching our flight path for hours on end and Sam slept on and off in-between watching copious cartoons - divide and conquer. Dad met our Pilot - Pete whilst we were checking in and managed to wrangle us a visit to the cockpit after the flight. The boys were gob-smacked. Eagle eyes Jack saw Davey from miles away and ran the length of the airport to cuddle him. It was very sweet. The boys fell asleep on the drive out to Marin so they missed our first glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge and the view back to the city. It was awesome. The weather is very mild and sunny.

Preparations

Hi... Welcome to The Lundberg Family blog! Not sure who will be reading this, but one day someone may... maybe?!

So, Davey left for California this morning. Got a farewell text from the Qantas Chairman's Lounge if you don't mind! Life's tough. 3 weeks to go until Jack, Sam and I head over as well, the countdown is on. Although we are going to miss our families immensley and the wonderfully supportive friendships (new and old) that we have enjoyed so much, we know we will keep in touch. We are all very excited about the next phase of our lives and the big adventures that lay ahead, and I look forward to sharing them with everyone here... stay tuned! Kelli x
